This is an easy, yummy recipe to make with your Little Chef!
These are delicious eaten slightly warm or for special occasions melt a little chocolate and let your child dip one end in the chocolate. Allow to cool and serve with fruit as a dessert.
Makes 10–12 Sponge Kisses
Ingredients
1 large egg
3 tbsp castor sugar
4 tbsp plain flour
1–2 tsp icing sugar
Method
Big Chef:
Preheat the oven to 200°C. Lightly grease 2 sheets of baking paper. With your little chef collect together all the ingredients.
Little Chef:
Crack the egg into a mixing bowl. Measure the sugar and put in the bowl.
Team work:
Hold the electric whisk and beat the egg and sugar together to form a thick creamy mixture. This takes a few minutes and you may have to finish this without your child.
Little Chef:
Measure the flour and sift over the mixture, half at a time. Fold flour in using a metal spoon (you’ll need to demonstrate how to fold in rather than stir as this is important to keep the air in the mixture).
Once mixture has been folded in, spoon drops of the mixture onto a greased sheet of baking paper. Make sure you leave space between the “kisses” to allow for spreading.
Big Chef:
Place in a pre-heated oven and bake for 7– 10 minutes until golden and spongy. Remove from the oven. Allow to cool for a few seconds and then using a palate knife lift onto a wire cooling rack.
Little Chef:
Using a small sieve sprinkle with icing sugar.
